Camping during Monsoons

Rain

Camping during monsoons can be extremely tricky and needs extra precaution and planning. As soon as water droplets start falling on the parched surface of the earth, the colour starts changing to green. Green vegetation starts cropping everywhere and the clouds make it look even more beautiful. The weather becomes cooler and the Earth becomes beautiful once again.

A lot of people plan camping around this time unaware of the issues of a lake side camp. An alpine tent is generally not good enough for Indian monsoons and sleeping in a tent could become a nightmare. Even if there is a shed the weather could become highly humid inside a tent because of a lack of air flow. Campsites adjacent to a lake are particularly prone to mosquito and insect infestation.

If you are traveling with family, it is a good idea to opt for a place which has rooms with private bathrooms. No one likes traveling through rains to reach the washroom in the middle of the night. The rooms also tend to be dry and clean as compared to tents during monsoons. Always carry a mosquito repellent with you while traveling during monsoons. Care should be taken with drinking water as well during monsoons. You do not want to spend most of your time in the washrooms with such beautiful weather. Most importantly select a place which is clean and hygienic.
